ASI as a “service provider” to the courts and in its role as such, creates programming based on the needs of the various courts it serves. All programs are creative and innovative using the latest trends in diversion, alternative sentencing and other methods in educating adult and juvenile offenders, which are proving to be a more positive and lasting solution to the crime problem.
All instructors for the following programs are certified and are highly trained professionals, most of which are retired law enforcement personnel.
ALABAMA SAFETY INSTITUTE DRIVER EDUCATION COURSE (LEVEL I & LEVEL II)
Level I is a four (4) hour course that includes the latest in Alabama laws, road rage, rules of the road, defensive techniques, etc. The fee for this program is $30.00. Level II is an advanced six (6) hour course suggested for aggravated and repeat offenders. The fee for the Level II program is $100.00.
The ALABAMA STATE TROOPER ASSOCIATION & the ALABAMA STATE LODGE OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE endorse both ADEP Level I and ADI Level II. Course material is approved by the Alabama Department of Public Safety. These courses are also available to Spanish speaking individuals.
ANGER MANAGEMENT INTERVENTION PROGRAM
A twelve (12) hour course designed to help offenders in cases of aggressive behavior learn better, more productive ways of responding to anger and conflicts in their lives. The program addresses negative and deviant behaviors of serious and repeat offenders. The fee for the course is $200.00.
ALABAMA COURT REFERRAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (SUBSTANCE ABUSE/DUI LEVEL I & LEVEL II)
Level I is a twelve (12) hour program designed to educate the DUI/drug offender about the risks and consequences of alcohol and other drug use. The fee for Level I is $115.00. Level II is an intensive twenty-four (24) hour course designed for aggravated and repeat offenders and involves group participation. The fee for Level II is $250.00. Both Level I and Level II are certified through the ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF COURTS . (All drug and alcohol offenders must be referred through the Court Referral Officer) These courses are also available to Spanish speaking individuals, which includes an additional 4 hours of Driver Education.
CDL PREPARATION COURSE
An eight (8) hour course designed to prepare those drivers who are seeking to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). This course addresses all necessary educational components with the exception of hands-on driving. The course may also be used as a refresher or continuing education for drivers who already have their CDL. The cost of the course is $100.00 per participant.
JUVENILE SUBSTANCE ABUSE EDUCATION PROGRAM
A twelve (12) hour course designed to educate and prevent juveniles/young adults from unacceptable behavior. The program covers all phases of youthful offender behavior problems. This program is certified through the ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF COURTS . The course fee is $115.00.
(All offenders must be referred through the Court Referral Officer)
LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR INMATES, PAROLEES, & PROBATIONERS
A twenty-four (24) hour course of intensive education for defendants currently involved in a penal system by incarceration, parole, or probation. The purpose of this program is to equip individuals on how to better cope with life issues upon returning to their respective communities. The course deals with such topics as values and character, goal setting, drug/alcohol education, anger management, conflict resolution, finances, ethics and employment issues.
LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING
A twelve (12) hour course for general law enforcement training. This program is for police officers who are in need of satisfying the annual twelve (12) hour education requirements of the Peace Officers Standards & Training Commission (POST). All instructors are highly trained professional law enforcement officers. The program includes such topics as Report Writing, Crash Investigations, Criminal Investigations, Drugs, Gangs and Tactical Enforcement, Drug Education, Internal Affairs, Management, Personnel, Supervision, Police Ethics, Community Policing, Crisis Negotiation, Homeland Security and other related courses.
EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATOR'S COURSE
A six (6) hour course designed to educate public safety employees on driving defensively, maintaining control of their vehicle and how to safely handle the hazards that emergency response driving presents. Risks involved in operating emergency vehicles, responsibilities to the public and Alabama Law (Title 32) are also discussed.
DRUG TESTING SERVICES
Comprehensive testing for qualitative detection of drug combinations and their principle metabolites in urine at specified cut-off concentrations. Chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS) are available to settle any debate on initial positive test results. Tests are administered by clinically trained technicians adhering to SAMHSA standards of certification. Tests screen for cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and methamphetamines. The cost is $20.00 per test. |
